The Palomar Pulsed Light System is a fast, comfortable and permanent alternative to mainstream hair reduction processes. This system:
The Palomar hair removal handpieces emit pulses of light into the hair follicles, and the light is absorbed by the pigment in the follicles and converted to heat. The heat loosens the hair and disables the cells responsible for growing new hair. Though similar to laser systems, the Palomar System uses a larger treatment window than most lasers, thus allowing more coverage — faster.
The treatment provider will move the handpiece over your skin as it pulses. Each pulse sends a beam of light through your skin. You will experience a mild sensation on your skin, while a flashing light and audible tone will tell you when the handpiece is being pulsed. Various cooling methods keep the process as comfortable as possible. Immediately after treatment, expect to feel a mild sunburn-like sensation, with possibly some minor swelling. This can be soothed with cold gel or ice packs, and usually diminishes within 2 to 24 hours of treatment.
Depending on the area of hair removal, the length of treatment can range from a few minutes to an hour. The treated hair will continue to appear for 7 to 30 days after treatment. This is not additional hair growth, but is the treated hair being expelled from the skin. The number of treatments will depend on the body area, hair color and consistency (coarse or thin). On average, 5 to 7 treatments, 5 to 10 weeks apart are recommended.
