Education and Experience
Dr. John D. Murray grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. After graduating from Marist School in Atlanta, and Furman University in Greenville, S.C., Dr. Murray received his doctorate in medicine, as well as his general surgery and plastic surgery training at the prestigious Emory University School of Medicine. He also completed his postdoctoral training in general surgery, plastics and reconstructive surgery there. He is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. He is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and American Medical Association.
In addition, Dr. Murray serves as Assistant Professor of Surgery and Director of Aesthetic Surgery at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria (UICOMP).
Cosmetic and Reconstructive Expertise
Dr. Murray approaches the field of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery with extensive knowledge, interest and experience. Prior to his completion of fellowship training, he participated in two separate preceptorships at the University of Texas Southwestern and Paces Plastic Surgery in Atlanta.
These experiences afforded Dr. Murray the opportunity to further his education and training with regard to a number of specialties, including facial rejuvenation, complex rhinoplasty and oculoplastic reconstruction and rejuvenation. Dr. Murray also uses his expertise and compassion to perform breast reconstruction, reduction, and augmentation.
Family and Interests
In addition to Dr. Murray's membership in numerous medical societies, civic and conservation organizational memberships include the Emory University Alumni Association, Trout Unlimited and The Nature Conservancy. He lives in Peoria with his wife, Dr. Paige Murray, and their two daughters.
